Lewis Camanachd has received a welcome boost to allow it to provide safety equipment for its young players, thanks to a donation from Lewis Wind Power, developers of Stornoway Wind Farm.

The financial support will also help the club to renew its kit and opens up opportunities for competing on the mainland for the young people.

Darren Cuming of Lewis Wind Power who met with Lewis Camanachd on the island recently, commented: “We are delighted to give Lewis Camanachd a donation of £1,000 as part of our ongoing support of local groups and initiatives on Lewis. We hope the funds will help to open up opportunities for the young people from the island and encourage more people to get involved in the club and its fantastic ethos.”

Annette Murray, Youth Coach and Chairperson of Lewis Camanachd said: “We would like to thank Lewis Wind Power for this generous donation. Our club is run entirely by volunteers, with no single sustainable source of funding, so sponsorship of this kind from Lewis Wind Power to augment our constant fundraising efforts is hugely appreciated by all of us at Lewis Camanachd as we try to provide opportunities for personal growth and development through sport for young people within our community.”
