“We are delighted to have been awarded a Contract for Difference for our Stornoway Wind Farm Project but we are very disappointed the transmission link will not be in place before 2030 according to the Holistic Network Design (HND) plan from National Grid.
It is great to have the certainty that the interconnector will be built between the Western Isles and the Scottish mainland without the requirement for a needs case, which is something that Lewis Wind Power has advocated for over many years, but 2030 is later than we would have wanted.
The project team will now be working to accelerate the timescales as outlined in the HND and we remain as committed as ever to building the Stornoway Wind Farm as soon as possible and seeing the huge benefits this project can bring to local people, Scotland’s net zero ambitions and the UK’s energy security.”
